Old Adaptation:
Cut 1/4 cup butter into 1 1/2 flour, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp cloves, 2 tsp ginger, and 1 tsp baking powder.
Add 1/4 cup packed brown sugar, 1/4 cup agave, 1/8 cup water, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1 egg.
Mix completely.
350 df for 15-17 minutes (soft-hard). Makes a dozen.
* The traditional version used cooked bread crumbs, no egg, double the sweetner (and all honey not agave and brown sugar), no baking powder, more cinnamon than ginger, pepper instead of cloves, no water, no butter, no vanilla, and saffron/cinnamon/sandalwood for colour.
Another version planned with bread crumbs, but this is a good recipe because it is a bread cookie-fluffy out of the oven, but not cakey.
Been researching middle ages recipes, and food combinations. Adapting some to modern ease like this one.
